When Alyssa and Harry reached out to me, they were just starting their lives together in Colorado. Newly engaged, they were super eager to do the damn thing and elope - they had been in a long distance relationship for 2 years, and were just super excited about finally living in the same city together. Both are avid adventurers, and live for backpacking, camping, hiking and everything in between, so it made sense to plan an awesome mountain elopement in Aspen, CO.

Being a wedding photographer in Colorado is an amazing job because it means that I get to also photograph destination weddings and elopements. I spend a lot of my time researching hikes and areas for mountain engagement sessions and elopements all over the state (which by the way, I’ve been here 10 years and every time I think I have seen everything Colorado has to offer, something new appears!), and figuring out what will work best for couples. Alyssa and Harry knew they wanted to hike somewhere amazing, as long as the weather worked out!

The original plan was to hike out on the top of Independence Pass and elope at sunrise, but there was a crazy winter storm in the forecast and for my clients, safety is my top priority. Instead, we hiked around and did a few photos up on the pass, and then hiked further down on Independence Pass, in an area that was a little less exposed and more secluded. Luckily we beat the storm!

We ended the day with Alyssa and Harry sharing cupcakes and walking through some aspens, which were hanging on to the last little bit of fall. I am seriously so glad I got to witness this part of their lives, and that they were so open to quick last minute changes! Enjoy!

Kat and Rich - Breckenridge Snowboarding Engagement Session - Breckenridge, CO

snowboarding engagement session breckenridge colorado

One of my favorite things to do is go snowboarding, especially during the week, ESPECIALLY on a powder day! On cold Tuesday in January at Breckenridge ski resort, I managed to accomplish all of my favorites, including an adventurous engagement session! The resort had reported 6 inches the night before, but there were definitely spots that had at least 8-10 inches - SOOO GOOD. Couple that with the fact that it was a weekday and there were no lift lines, so I was in heaven.

Kat and Rich were in town from Miami to finish some wedding planning (they are getting married at the Sonnenalp in Vail next February - yup. cant wait!) and we decided to do some engagement photos in Breckenridge at the ski resort! The engagement session was completely based around snowboarding, and of course, the occasional beer break ;) It was a blast and I love couples who don’t take themselves seriously and just try to live life as genuinely as they can. They are both nurses who are incredibly passionate about what they do, and it shows. They also love snowboarding together, so much so that they make it a point to take multiple ski trips a year! We started out with some fun photos in the snow, and then bundled up and went riding. It was my first time ever carrying all of my heavy photo gear while snowboarding (not to mention my first snowboarding engagement session!) and I was terrified I was going to fall straight onto one of my cameras and break a lens or something worse. Luckily the snow was great and riding with all the gear in my backpack was relatively easy.

If this kind of an adventurous engagement session sounds up your alley, please do not hesitate to reach out! I had so much fun doing this and would love to meet more fun loving couples like Kat and Rich!
